The news that all lovers of mountains, spectacular roads, and adventure have been waiting for is here! The Transalpina (DN67C) officially reopened to road traffic today, June 6, 2025! The announcement was made by the director general of CNAIR and confirmed by DRDP Craiova, the authority responsible for this section.

Starting at 09:00, access was allowed on the key mountain section of the Transalpina, the one between Rânca and Curpăt.

What Should You Know Before Setting Off on the Transalpina in 2025?

To safely enjoy the unique experience the Transalpina offers, follow the traffic schedule and the restrictions in place:

Initial Schedule (until July 1, 2025): Daily access hours: 09:00 – 20:00

Extended Schedule (after July 1, 2025): Daily driving hours: 07:00 – 21:00

Speed Limit: The maximum speed is 30 km/h. Sticking to this limit is important, given the tight hairpin bends and the alpine landscape.

Maximum Permitted Weight: Access is allowed only for vehicles with a maximum authorized total weight of up to 3.5 tons.

Why Is the Transalpina Such a Special Destination?

  • Record Altitude: It is the highest road in Romania, reaching a maximum altitude of 2,145 meters at Urdele Pass.

  • Breathtaking Scenery: It offers spectacular panoramic views of the Parâng Mountains, with towering ridges and deep valleys.

  • Rich History: Also known as the “King's Road” (King Carol II), it was rebuilt between 1934 and 1939 and modernized after 2009, and it has a strategic and economic role.

  • Adventure: Every bend is a new discovery, a challenge for drivers and a delight for passengers.

The authorities advise everyone who will drive the Transalpina to strictly respect the particular nature of this mountain road and drive with extra care. Weather conditions can change quickly at altitude, so caution is advised.

The reopening of the Transalpina is a moment thousands of Romanians and foreign tourists look forward to. Check the weather before you leave, make sure your car is in good working order, and get ready for a one-of-a-kind experience.

The Transalpina, Romania's highest road, is once again waiting for visitors in the 2025 season!

The Tășuleasa Social Association, which initiated the project, recently announced that Via Transilvanica is expanding. The goal is to connect all of Romania's historical regions, over the next 20 years, to the existing 1,400-kilometer network. A first concrete step in this direction was the inauguration, on June 5, of the “Terra Borza Teutonica” segment, about 170 kilometers long, in Brașov County.

The Transfăgărășan and the Transalpina, Romania's busiest high-altitude roads, reopened to traffic for the 2025 season on the same day: today, Friday, June 6. The authorities have officially announced the details of the operating hours and the safety measures that apply. On the Transfăgărășan (DN7C), access was allowed starting at 07:00 on the entire mountain section […]
