The cheapest ski resorts in Romania remain an ideal choice for winter sports enthusiasts who want to enjoy well-groomed slopes without spending a lot.

In recent years, the cost of skiing and snowboarding has risen significantly, making these activities less affordable. Still, there are resorts where prices are budget-friendly, offering a winter experience at a low cost. The prices below are from the 2025–2026 season.

Discover our list of the three cheapest ski resorts in Romania:

1. Vâlcan Pass – probably the cheapest ski resort in Romania

Located in Hunedoara County, the Vâlcan Pass is considered one of the most affordable ski resorts in Romania.

In the 2025–2026 season, a gondola ride from the town of Vulcan up to the resort cost 15 lei (25 lei round trip), and a one-day ski pass including the gondola cost 60 lei, much less than at other well-known resorts. Outside the peak holiday periods, the area is not crowded.

Although the infrastructure is not as developed as in other resorts, the picturesque scenery and good prices make up for it.

The Vâlcan Pass has two short slopes, a few hundred meters long, suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers and served by two ski lifts. The resort also has a conveyor belt for those just starting out, an après-ski bar and an equipment rental center.

2. Harghita area – a variety of ski slopes

Harghita County has become a popular destination for ski lovers, thanks to significant investment in infrastructure.

Today, the county has about 20 ski slopes, with a ski area of more than 20 kilometers.

In the 2025–2026 season, an adult one-day ski pass cost between 110 and 166 lei, depending on the resort and the day: 110–130 lei with the joint SkiHarghita pass, 130 lei in Toplița, 160 lei in Harghita-Băi and 166 lei in Harghita-Mădăraș.

A full set of ski equipment rents for 50–100 lei a day, and a one-hour private lesson costs around 140–220 lei (less per person in a group). Prices remain considerably lower than at the Prahova Valley resorts, where a one-day ski pass cost 210–250 lei.

Affordable resorts in Harghita include the slopes on the joint SkiHarghita pass (Lobogó, Bogdán, Havas Bucsin, Borsec and others) and Toplița, while Harghita-Băi and Harghita-Mădăraș are somewhat more expensive.

Harghita has also been named European Region of Gastronomy 2027.
