Mamaia Nord – Năvodari is one of the most dynamic and most recently developed tourist areas on the Romanian Black Sea coast. Located on the northern extension of the famous Mamaia resort and within the administrative territory of the town of Năvodari, it has undergone a spectacular transformation in recent years.

Geographic Location on the Romanian Coast
The town of Năvodari is located in the center of Constanța County. It lies on the southern shore of Lake Tașaul and on the strip of land (isthmus) between it and Lake Siutghiol.
Mamaia Nord – Năvodari Beach

Năvodari is about 15 km north of the county seat, the city of Constanța. See details
The town's geographic boundaries are:
To the north: Lake Tașaul and the village of Sibioara.
To the south: Lake Siutghiol and the Mamaia resort.
To the west: Lumina commune (formerly Cogealia commune).
To the east: The Black Sea coast.
It is located north of the Mamaia resort, in Constanța County, Dobruja.
The town of Năvodari is made up of two distinct localities: Năvodari proper, the seat, and Mamaia Sat, often associated with and referred to as Mamaia Nord. See Wikipedia
According to the census conducted in December 2021, the total population of Năvodari was 34,398, up from 32,981 in 2011.
The exact boundaries may vary in public perception and in promotional materials, but administratively and in urban planning terms, the area is an extension of the town of Năvodari southward along the coast.
Its emergence as a distinct tourist destination is a relatively recent phenomenon, marked by rapid real estate development, especially after 2000, with a significant acceleration after 2010. The area is dominated by modern residential complexes and new hotels.
Năvodari – Mamaia Nord stands apart from the neighboring resorts. Compared to Mamaia, with its long history and classic hotel infrastructure, the new area features contemporary architecture and a high density of buildings.

It also differs from the historical profile of the town of Năvodari, once dominated by industry (the Petromidia Platform) and social tourism (the children's camp), and is now oriented mainly toward residential and vacation tourism services.
Official Recognition and Boundaries of the Năvodari Resort
Under Government Decision No. 37/2018, which came into force on March 15, 2018, the coastal area of Năvodari was officially recognized under the name Mamaia Nord – Năvodari Resort.
As a result, Năvodari City Hall was able to access grant funding to develop tourist infrastructure and promote the area.

According to the official boundaries, the Mamaia Nord – Năvodari Resort extends north to the bridge over the Poarta Albă – Midia Năvodari Canal (the lock area), south to the boundary with the Mamaia resort, west to Lake Siutghiol and the Poarta Albă-Midia Năvodari Canal, and is bordered by the Black Sea to the east. Historical Context and Urban Development
The town of Năvodari, first documented as early as the 15th–16th centuries (under various names, such as Caracoium – “the black sheep,” later Carachioi), underwent a major transformation in the second half of the 20th century. Earlier, in 1927, the village of Carachioi had been renamed Năvodari.
Its development followed two main directions: industrial development, through the construction and commissioning of the Midia-Năvodari Petrochemical Plant (now Petromidia, inaugurated in 1979), and the development of social tourism through the establishment of the International Children's and Youth Camp, one of the largest in Eastern Europe at the time.
The development of the adjacent area to the south, later known as Mamaia Nord, into a distinct tourist hub took off after 2000.
Mamaia Nord

Key factors included the growing demand for accommodation on the coast, land prices that were initially lower than in the established Mamaia resort, and real estate investment opportunities in an area with room to expand.
Urban development went through several stages:
Initial phase (2000s – around 2008–2010): Characterized by more sporadic construction, mainly tourist villas and small accommodation units.
Accelerated expansion phase (after 2010): Marked by large-scale real estate developments.
Urban development in Mamaia Nord – Năvodari consists mainly of apartment blocks (many intended for vacation or hotel-style rentals) and modern hotels, often of considerable height.
Getting to the Mamaia Nord – Năvodari Resort
DJ226 is the main road running through the resort from north to south, providing a direct link to the town of Năvodari (the mainland part) to the north and to the Mamaia resort and the city of Constanța to the south.
Along the tourist strip, DJ226 is also known as Mamaia Nord Boulevard.
The A2 Motorway (Bucharest – Constanța) is the main access route from the capital and other regions of the country. The resort can be reached via the Ovidiu exit, continuing on DJ226, or by crossing the city of Constanța and joining DJ226 from the south.
DN39 (E87) links Constanța to the southern coast and the border with Bulgaria. From DN39, Mamaia Nord is reached via Constanța.
Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport is located about 25–30 km to the northwest and is the main air gateway to the Romanian coast.
Constanța train station, the region's main rail hub, located about 15–20 km south of the central area of the Mamaia Nord – Năvodari resort, has connections to most of the country's major cities.
Features of Năvodari Beach
The beach of the Mamaia Nord – Năvodari resort stands out for certain specific features:
Width and Layout: The width of the beach varies along the resort. Following recent beach widening and sand replenishment projects, certain sectors, especially in the Mamaia Nord area, are considerably wider and now rank among the most generous on the Romanian coast.
Further north, in the historical area of Năvodari and near some older buildings, you can find tetrapods and other coastal protection works designed to combat erosion. The overall layout is linear, following the coastline.

Sand Quality: In most areas, the sand is fine to medium-fine and predominantly golden-yellow. A variable amount of shell fragments is typical, as on other Black Sea beaches. In recently replenished areas, the texture and composition of the sand may differ due to the added material.
Entering the Water: The entry into the Black Sea is generally gentle, with a gradual underwater slope. This makes the beach suitable and safe for families with children and for weaker swimmers. The water depth increases gradually, with no sudden drop-offs in most sectors.

Facilities: The beach is divided into private sectors, run by private operators, and public areas. The private sectors rent out sun loungers, umbrellas and canopy beds and are served by numerous beach bars offering drinks and snacks.
There are also free-access sections of beach. During the summer season, lifeguard stations and first aid posts are in operation. Sanitary facilities (toilets, showers) are available, though their number and quality vary.
Seawater Quality: Water quality is monitored regularly by the competent authorities. Test results are usually public and show that the water meets quality standards.
Temporary fluctuations in quality may occur depending on hydrometeorological conditions (storms, currents) or natural phenomena (e.g., algal blooms), but these are generally short-lived and localized.
