The resort of Neptun is located in the southern part of Romania's Black Sea coast, between the resorts of Olimp and Jupiter. Administratively, it belongs to the city of Mangalia, Constanța County.
It is a popular choice for families with children, thanks to its beach and dedicated recreational options.
Neptun-Olimp – aerial view before the expansion

Unlike other resorts, Neptun has large areas of forest (part of the Comorova Forest) integrated directly between the hotels and along the paths.

“La Steaguri” Beach is the resort's best-known and widest stretch of beach, serving as a central landmark and the main draw for tourists. It rivals famous beaches on the Romanian coast and is considered one of the most beautiful. See Wikipedia
La Steaguri Beach

There is no clear boundary between Neptun and Olimp; the two resorts practically form one continuous area.
Neptune was the god of the sea in Roman mythology, the counterpart of Poseidon in Greek mythology.
Location and Getting There
Geographically, Neptun is located on the Black Sea coast, in southeastern Romania.
Administratively, the resort's territory belongs to the city of Mangalia, about 6 km away. The resort lies about 38 kilometers south of the city of Constanța.
Neptun's immediate neighbors are the resort of Olimp to the north and the resort of Jupiter to the south.
How do you get to Neptun on the coast?
The main road route is the A2 highway (Bucharest – Constanța), followed by the DN39 (European route E87) toward Constanța – Mangalia.
The DN39 runs right through Neptun. The distance from Bucharest to Neptun is about 240 km.
The resort is served by the Neptun CFR train stop, where seasonal trains (Regio and InterRegio) running on the Constanța – Mangalia route stop.
The stop is centrally located, near the Neptun lakes, and the distance to most hotels and the beach ranges from 500 meters to 1.5 kilometers.
Alternatively, you can take the train to Mangalia station, which has more frequent connections to major cities, and from there reach Neptun in a few minutes by local minibus or taxi.
The Beach in Neptun: 2025 Overview
The beach in the Neptun-Olimp resort area has undergone an extensive widening process as part of a European project to combat coastal erosion.
The beach nourishment process added a considerable amount of sand, widening the beach by tens, and in some areas even hundreds, of meters. This change has brought both advantages and disadvantages, which tourists perceive differently depending on their preferences.
Neptun Beach

Width and Available Space
The main result of the works is a very generous amount of space. The beach is now extremely wide, which almost completely eliminates the crowding typical of the summer season. Tourists can easily find a spot to lay down their towel while keeping a comfortable distance from others. The large gaps between sun loungers provide more privacy and quiet.
Sand Quality
The sand used for the expansion was dredged from offshore and has a different composition from the original fine sand. The new layer of sand is coarser (it has a larger grain size) and contains a significant amount of shell fragments. For some people, walking barefoot can be uncomfortable.
Getting into the Water
The widening of the beach changed the natural slope into the sea. The entry into the water is no longer gradual. In most areas, a ledge or “step” has formed right at the shoreline. In practice, after 1-2 meters of shallow water, the depth increases, and this calls for extra caution, especially for families with small children.
Distance to the Water
Because of the considerable width, the distance from the promenade, terraces, or hotels to the waterline is now greater (an inconvenience for people with reduced mobility or for families carrying a lot of beach gear). To make access easier, beach operators have installed wooden walkways and boardwalks.

Local minibuses connect all the resorts along the Constanța – Mangalia stretch and are a quick and inexpensive way to visit nearby resorts.
Parking is a major issue in Neptun. Finding a free parking spot on the resort's streets can be difficult at the height of the summer season (July and August) because of the large number of tourists. However, there are paid parking lots and hotel parking.
Between Neptun and Olimp, on the main road, there is a discount supermarket, and within the resort there are also many local grocery stores with extended hours in the summer.
Several pharmacies operate in the resort, and ATMs from Romania's major banks are available.
Spa Treatments in Neptun
Neptun is also recognized as a spa and climatic resort.

The treatments mainly target rheumatic conditions (degenerative, inflammatory), post-traumatic conditions, and respiratory, dermatological, and gynecological disorders, as well as disorders of the peripheral nervous system.
Natural healing factors: Treatment is based on the combined action of natural factors specific to the area: the marine climate rich in saline aerosols, heliotherapy (sunbathing), Black Sea water (with beneficial salinity and mineral composition), and sapropelic mud brought from Lake Techirghiol, used in treatments as wraps and baths.
Neptun vs. the Southern Resorts (Jupiter, Venus, Saturn)
Among the group of resorts on the southern coast, Neptun is positioned in the mid-to-upper segment in terms of quality and price.
Compared with its direct neighbors (Jupiter, Venus, Saturn), Neptun has the advantage of a more developed and diverse infrastructure.
It offers a central beach that is superior in size and facilities, a wider variety of restaurants, and non-beach recreational options (lakes, adventure park).
The resort's overall appearance is better kept, and green spaces are more prominent than in Saturn or Jupiter.
Launch of the Neptun Deep Project
The Neptun Deep project, which began in March 2025, is the largest natural gas extraction initiative in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.
From the perspective of officials in Bucharest, this project is of major strategic importance for Romania and is seen as an essential pillar for ensuring the country's energy security and independence.
Starting production would reduce dependence on imports and strengthen Romania's role as an energy producer in the region.
On the other hand, the project faces firm opposition from environmental activists. The main concern is the potential damage to Black Sea biodiversity.
